Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 in Wild Nonhuman Primates, Zambia
Human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3) genome was detected in 4 baboons in Zambia. Antibody for HPIV3 was detected in 13 baboons and 6 vervet monkeys in 2 distinct areas in Zambia. Our findings suggest that wild nonhuman primates are susceptible to HPIV3 infection.

The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) was examined in 16 surgically removed colonic tumours and two colonic carcinoma cell lines. Immunohistochemistry showed a varying percentage of ICAM-1 positive colonic carcinoma cells in 9/16 tissue specimens, while normal colonic tissue (apart from a slight reactivity of endothelial cells) was not stained. The presence of the I...
متن کاملRole of nucleolin in human parainfluenza virus type 3 infection of human lung epithelial cells.
Human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV-3) is an airborne pathogen that infects human lung epithelial cells from the apical (luminal) plasma membrane domain. In the present study, we have identified cell surface-expressed nucleolin as a cellular cofactor required for the efficient cellular entry of HPIV-3 into human lung epithelial A549 cells. Nucleolin was enriched on the apical cell surface do...
متن کاملAntiviral activity of mycosynthesized silver nanoparticles against herpes simplex virus and human parainfluenza virus type 3
The interaction between silver nanoparticles and viruses is attracting great interest due to the potential antiviral activity of these particles, and is the subject of much research effort in the treatment of infectious diseases. In this work, we demonstrate that silver nanoparticles undergo a size-dependent interaction with herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 and with human parainfluenza virus ...
متن کاملAnti-CD54 (ICAM-1) Has Antitumor Activity in SCID Mice with Human Myeloma Cells1
Recent studies have suggested that ICAM-1 (CD54) is involved in the pathogenesis of human multiple myeloma. A monoclonal antihuman CD54 antibody has been generated by immunizing BALB/c mice with human myeloma cell lines. SCID mice injected with human ARH-77 myeloma cells develop disseminated myeloma which is similar in several respects to multiple myeloma in humans. The mice have monoclonal gam...
